In fact, by just about any measure, it’s the most elite of any airline affinity card. First, the price: $450 per year. That makes it one of the world’s most expensive credit cards, which puts the value proposition front and center. At that price, it had better deliver. Does it? At the top of the benefits list are the bonuses awarded after using the card for the first time, and after reaching spending targets. While most airline affinity cards offer generous sign-up bonuses, the Reserve card distinguishes itself by awarding

BLONDE DГјsseldorf, mystery revealed!

Posted under Reviews - Apr 29th, 08 - No Comments

I know Lauro, I promised you an orange umbrella… Does BLONDE stand for only blondes allowed?  Does it stand for Berlin London Osaka New-York DГјsseldorf Eccentrics? Does it stand for Biggest Little Off Nocturnal Dude Ever? Is it a chat-room accidentally posted in the meetup part? Is it a pillow fight game with TravBuddy’s? Is it a shoe-fettish meetup? Is it a beach party? This topic raised a lot of questions. What is this all about? Have I missed something? And especially, why you would have had to be there? It all started after the Amsterdam meetup January 26th this year. …but all you got was a louzy orange trumpet ! 35 TravBuddy’s attended at this meetup. Soon after this meetup Lauro came up with the idea to organize a mini meetup in DГјsseldorf. To give a farewell party for Bennie (BMatital) who’s leaving for 3 month’s to Brazil and as well for Charlotte’s (vosking) upcoming birthday. The first post was in the Amsterdam meetup topic wich was still used as a

48 hours in New Orleans

, new cultural life is coursing through the city in the form of newly decorated restaurants and musicians returning to old venues. Reuters correspondents with local knowledge help visitors get the most from a short visit to the city: Cocktail hour comes early in the city with drive-through daiquiri shops. Try Adelaide's Cafe, home of the Swizzle Stick Lounge. The Tequila Mockingbird Martini packs a lemonade-style punch. The butternut squash soup suggests that a delicious dinner awaits. Count Arnaud's daughter, Germaine Cazenave Wells, reigned over more Mardi Gras balls than anyone else, 22 in all. This royal family took their position seriously. The champagne gown of 1954 practically bubbles off the mannequin in the upstairs Mardi Gras Museum. Below, the food and music tempt the senses at which celebrates 90 years in business this year. Try the seafood with Creole roux and remember that the chefs of New Orleans are not doctors worried about your cholesterol. Meet

Troubleshooter: Where are my vouchers?

Posted under Vacation News, Travel - Apr 27th, 08 - No Comments

(Tribune Media Services) — Myron Sigal and his wife can’t make their return flight from Venice to Philadelphia after she is injured on a Mediterranean cruise. US Airways promises him a voucher for the unused portion, but months later, there’s no sign of it. Is the money lost? Q: I need your help getting a voucher that US Airways promised us, but hasn’t sent. While we were on a Mediterranean cruise last year, my wife fell and was severely injured. As a result, we couldn’t make our return flight from Venice to Philadelphia. I called US Airways and told them what happened and requested a refund for the return flight. The agent promised us a $960 voucher. We were able to use part of the credit on a flight to Miami several months later, but only after explaining everything to a US Airways representative again — I had to give him the names of the hospital and doctors who treated my wife. Our tickets cost $124 per person each way, which should have left us a credit of about $400. It’s

United matches American’s elite-mile bonus

And vice versa. It was no surprise, then, that United matched American’s double elite-mile bonus. Except for a later start date, United’s offer is identical to American’s: double elite-qualifying miles for United, United Express, and Ted flights completed between April 21 and June 15. Registration is required. With two of the “Big Six” now offering frequent flyers an easier road to elite perks, or to reaching a higher elite tier, it’s likely that at least some of the other legacy carriers will feel compelled to do the same. Stay tuned for more elite promotions.

A walk on New Zealand’s wild side

Posted under Cruises - Apr 25th, 08 - No Comments

There's plenty of choice. Even here in the heavily populated Waikato, we're never much more than a half-hour's drive from substantial patches of bush and/or mountain where, if one is game enough to step off the main tracks, it is not a difficult matter to get lost, or at least find places where few humans have been before you. Mt Pirongia, the Hakarimata Ranges, the Kaimai Ranges, Rangitoto, and the Pureora Forest are good examples of great places to go lonely walkabout, on your own or with a few good friends. Further south and east there's that great bush and mountain country of the Kaimanawa Forest Park backed by a huge block of wilderness that runs clear through the Kaweka Conservation Area, on the way to Napier, As well, there's the wonderfully mysterious and sometimes forbidding country of the Urewera National Park, the Raukumara Conservation area east of Opotiki, and the Whirinaki Forest Park east of Taupo. There's plenty of big country in between, and

AirTran, Midwest in mileage battle over Milwaukee

Sure, competition has kept prices down (a recent New York Times article reports that since deregulation, the cost to fly has declined by more than 50 percent). But service and comfort have tanked. And those systemwide double-mile offers of previous decades are just that: a thing of the past. So the looming battle between Midwest and AirTran for Milwaukee air travelers is a welcome change, especially for loyalty program participants. The weapon of choice: frequent flyer points. AirTran this week rolled out a triple-credit offer for members of its A+ Rewards program who fly round-trip
