Raa Atoll is perhaps not the first place you would choose to find a Maldives Holiday Island Resort, because it is not as well known as many other atolls. Raa Atoll is North West of Male Atoll and west of Noonu Atoll, on the outer margins of the Maldives. It is an enormous atoll 65kms long and 28kms wide with more than 90 islands. Only 16 of the islands are inhabited, mostly on the eastern side of the atoll, and only one contains a tourist resort.. The atoll is famous for boat building the traditional ‘dhonis’ and also for its fishing fleet. As a tourist there are a lot of uninhabited islands to visit, fishing villages, and the diving is particularly spectacular due to the unusual formation of the atoll with complex reef formations at the centre of it. Raa Atoll is located in the Northern part of Maldives and to the west of the Noonu atoll. The Raa Atoll comprises of a collection of over 90 islands of which only 16

Feds lift ban on most cigarette lighters on planes
WASHINGTON (AP) — Airline passengers will be allowed to bring most cigarette lighters on board again starting next month, freeing airport screeners to spend more time searching for explosives. And travelers without infants along will be allowed to carry more breast milk on planes to accommodate working mothers. Starting August 4, air travelers will be allowed to carry on disposable butane lighters, such as Bics, and refillable lighters, like Zippos, the Transportation Security Administration announced Friday. But torch-style lighters, which have hotter flames, will still be banned. "Explosives remain the most significant threat to aviation," said TSA administrator Kip Hawley. "By enabling our officers to focus on the greatest threats, we are using our officers’ time and energy more effectively and increasing security for passengers." Lighters are the leading item seized at airport checkpoints, an average of more than 22,000 a day. It costs TSA $4 million a year

Air travel today: What Kahn hath wrought
![]()
Never have so many been so unhappy with the state of the air travel industry. The traveling public. Congress. Airline employees. Investors. It’s impossible to think of a single interest group that doesn’t think the airline industry is in shambles. Blame it on Kahn. That’s Alfred Kahn, the economist appointed by Jimmy Carter in the 1970s to head up the Civil Aeronautics Board and oversee the transition of U.S. commercial aviation from a regulated to an unregulated system. The results of deregulation are all too apparent: delays, lost baggage, convoluted pricing, indifferent service, a rat’s nest of niggling fees, disappearing meals, and planes packed practically to overflowing. But the numbers are on Kahn’s side. More people are flying, and they’re flying for less. According to a USA Today profile of Kahn, “In 1978, when the Airline Deregulation Act passed, the average air traveler paid 8.3 cents per mile for a flight. In 2006, travelers paid just less than half that rate on an

Digital memento of time in NZ
He has produced a series of electronic DVD “postcards” featuring Christchurch and 18 other regions across New Zealand, including Kaikoura, the West Coast and Queenstown. A further 34 will be released in October, including towns like Hanmer and Akaroa. Willowbank and the International Antarctic Centre will also have their own personalised “postcards”. Each DVD is a 12 to 15-minute film featuring scenery and other highlights. Priced at $10 they can be sent anywhere in the world, just like a postcard, and the recipient can watch the DVD and see what the region is like. Mr Binder set up the business in his Coromandel home a year ago, after moving to New Zealand in 2005 with his wife, Elisabeth, and their three children. “We ended up in New Zealand in 1993 on holiday and we said that one day we would bring our family here.” Mr Binder entered the country on the business migration scheme and was looking at various ideas when a friend came up with the “Post a Movie” concept. He funded the

Flaherty’s Irish Pub
Flaherty’s is an official Guinness Irish pub in the center of Sevilla, next to the huge cathedral, in the Calle Alemanes. They have terraces outside, a nice patio, and many tables in the air conditioned interior. We found the service to be very correct and friendly too. Since this is a pub, naturaly, it isn’t a place to eat or drink typical Spanish specialties. Yet we found the tinto de verano nice, and we had some ‘tapas’ that were really tasty too. I think the main advantage of Flaherty’s is that it is open all day, both cafГ© and kitchen. So whenever you feel hungry or thirsty, you can come here. It is also a good place for those who doesn’t like the Spanish cuisine. I didn’t tried the dishes here but I saw what the tables around us were getting, and stuff like spaghetti, hamburgers with fries,… looked very tasty (while in most Spanish restaurants they’re no good). Your romantic honeymoon package can help the environment as well because Mounu has been set up as an Eco Resort. Day Twenty Six
Buckingham Palace The word of the day is… lame! I started off my ridiculously busy day at Buckingham Palace to finally see the changing of the guards. We got there a half hour before it started and it was already jam packed. Was able to get my way second in line (just one person between me and the gates outside) but I still couldn’t see much. Halfway through I went farther back and was able to see a little more, like the men on horses going through the gate. But, seriously, the thing as a whole was laaaame. So short, so overrated. It wasn’t all that special. I guess you can’t really go to London and not see the changing of the guards (kinda a requirement) and now that I’ve done it I can honestly say… so freaking lame. Then after that we headed to Westminster Abbey. Buckingham Palace It was absolutely stunning inside, definitely not lame. The architecture, stained glass, monuments. I don’t know what else I can really say… you just have to see it
